Each child is responsible for textbooks and workbooks that will be distributed the first week of school. If any book is lost or damaged, a new book will be issued after the full price of the book has been paid. All textbooks and workbooks are to be covered. All textbooks and workbooks remain property of the school.
Students are required to make up any work due to absence. Students have one school day to make up work for each day they are absent. It is the student’s responsibility, not the teacher’s, to obtain makeup work.
Pre K - 2
Students who are absent from school are given one day for each day absent to hand in missed assignments. If a parent wishes to pick up make-up assignments, please call the school office (NOT the teacher’s voice mail) by 10:00 AM. Assignments may then be picked up in the main office after 2:00 PM on the day of the absence or given to a sibling upon the parent’s request.
Grades 3 - 5
In grades 3 – 5 homework is usually practice of new concepts taught during the day therefore, assignments missed due to absence may be difficult to make up. For students who miss one or two days of school, they will be given the same amount of days to make up any work missed once they return to school. If a student is absent for three or more days, it is requested that the parents call the main office (NOT the teacher’s voice mail) by 10:00 AM and request make up work. Assignments may then be picked up in the main office after 2:00 PM on the day of the absence or given to a sibling upon the parent’s request.
Grades 6 - 8
Students are required to make up any work due to absence. It is the student’s responsibility, not the teacher’s, to obtain makeup work when they return to school. Make up work should be returned in the time frame allotted by the subject teacher.
If a student is absent for three or more days, it is requested that the parents call the main office (NOT the teacher’s voice mail) to request assignments which will be made available the next day.
Each student's progress and effort is unique to the individual. Students completing a grade's work to the extent of their ability generally are to be promoted to the next grade level. When it becomes evident that it is necessary for a student to repeat the grade, parents will be notified by March. An approved summer school or tutor may be accepted in order that students are prepared for the next grade. Approval must be given by the principal.
All students in Grade 8 need to pass all major subjects in order to be eligible for graduation. Any student who is not promoted in either seventh or eighth grades may not repeat the year at Saint Aloysius School.
Students will be monitored in their groups and adjustments may be made accordingly. Criteria for Grouping: The following criteria may be used to group students in Math:
•Past academic performance
•Percentiles on the most recent standardized test scores
