DISCIPLINE
Saint Aloysius School believes that students are entitled to a safe and orderly learning environment. Staff, parents and administration strive to insure this environment on a daily basis. At times, rule infractions warrant stronger measures than simple teacher warnings and notes home. These infractions will be dealt with by using a school-wide detention policy.
Children attend Saint Aloysius School to achieve academic proficiency as well as social, spiritual and emotional growth in a Catholic atmosphere. The school, therefore, reserves the right to expel or refuse to re-register students who interfere with the learning process of others by their disruptive behavior, excessive tardiness, chronic absenteeism, lack of effort in school work or by frequent disregard of policies and consequences.
The purpose of policies is to form sensitive and moral behavior in the children, to teach them a good sense of values and respect for self, for others, and for all property and our earth. Cooperation from parents regarding these policies will reinforce good habits that will last a lifetime.
There is an expected code of conduct for the young citizens in our building. The after-school detention policy will affect all students in Grades 4 - 8. These students have reached a sufficient chronological and developmental age to be held accountable for their actions. Detention is an inconvenience for all involved, teachers, parents and students. Detention should be seen as a serious event.
A notice of a detention will be sent home with 24 hours notice so that transportation arrangements may be made. Written warnings and detentions will be signed by the issuing staff member and sent home for parent signature. A parent signature on the detention only indicates notification was received. All paperwork must be promptly signed and returned to whomever issued the detention slip to avoid further consequences. More than three detentions in any one marking period will be deemed as excessive and may carry additional consequences. Saint Aloysius School understands that no one is perfect and everyone falters on his or her path toward completing Jesus’ mission. Detentions, therefore, will only be accumulated for one marking period. Everyone is given a clean social and academic slate at the beginning of a new marking period.
Detention will be served for one hour after school: 3:20 P.M. - 4:20 P.M. Detention is mandatory and the student must arrange for a ride home from school as public transportation is not provided at this hour. All detentions must be served within two weeks of the written notification or the student will become ineligible to participate in other school activities. Students not picked up at 4:20 P.M. will be placed in the school After Care program. This will incur the fee of one After Care stay.
Primary Level (K-3) detentions will be given at the discretion of the administration and teachers for Grades K- 3. Consequences may include lunch detention and/or the loss of recess privileges for behaviors which are contrary to school policy.
The Principal maintains the right to determine the seriousness of policy infraction and rule violations. The Principal decides if certain causes of misconduct require stronger measures than stated.
